A composite of radar measurements carried out by the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) has a pattern more similar to our climatology than the GPCC climatology (data not shown; Yatagai and Kawamoto 2008). The purpose of this section is to provide potential users with information on the quantitative differences between our analysis and a monthly rain gauge–based product that is constructed without GTS-based real-time data.
